Description
When Bledsoe County was created in 1807, the boundaries of this county stretched up the entire length of Sequatchie Valley from the Alabama state line to well above Grassy Cove. In later years, several counties were taken out of these boundaries, namely, Marion, Sequatchie and Cumberland Counties. This Compendium covers the time period of 1807 to 1850 and includes many unusual records. Like any Compendium, this one includes some familiar records like census, but here is included several Petitions to the Tennessee State Legislature for changes within the county. Here are also many different militia records which are hard to find as well as the listing of Post Masters for the various Post Offices that existed during these years. When we give militia records, we try to identify the war with other information like companies and units.
